Individual high school student exchange

Interkultura organizes programs for students aged 15-18 to go abroad on an AFS exchange and Serbian families to host exchange students who come to Serbia. Exchange students live in host families, go to local schools in the local language and become members of the local community. Interkultura and partner AFS organizations provide selection, preparation and support for programme participants.

AFS is a leading study abroad program for secondary school students, supported and facilitated by trained staff and volunteers. Since 1947, AFS has prepared young people with practical skills and knowledge valued by universities and employers—and needed to succeed in a global world. AFS programs help young people learn about a world beyond their own communities—and become comfortable interacting with people from other countries and cultures.

AFS has invited families to welcome international students into their homes since 1947. Long considered a key element in the well being of exchange students, host families provide so much more than shelter and meals.

What do host families do?

Supported by dedicated volunteers and staff, host families help students navigate their new schools and communities, make friends, learn the language and enjoy their year abroad. Sharing culture and traditions help families bond, creating lifelong friendships.

Scholarships

As an AFS organization, Interkultura is committed to helping young people to take part in international exchanges regardless of their financial situation. This is especially important in Serbia, because exchange programmes are not accessible to many due to financial contraints. That’s why we work on developing sponsorship schemes to support students through full and partial scholarships.
